“The fact that aircraft furniture is so varied, you are always discovering new things, learning new ways of designing. It brings new challenges with every new job, so it’s never boring!”

Arthur provides engineering services for a private aircraft customisation company, working on a project that required solid work experience but also offered a lot of variety in a friendly environment. Here’s more about how he got there, what he’s actually doing, the client and his relationship with agap2.

Could you please introduce yourself and your job in a few words?
Hello everyone, I’m Arthur Bohnert, a mechanical design engineer. My job is to design parts or larger assemblies to the precise specifications of the customer.

Could you please introduce the client you are working for in a few words?
I work for a company that designs the interiors of private jets for clients all over the world. Today I’m working more specifically for a partner company as a sub-contractor.

What other missions have you worked on with agap2?
I’m actually a newcomer, as this is my first mission with Agap2!

Could you please introduce the project you are currently working on?
My project is to provide a mechanical engineering services for planes customisation in the Basel area on various aircraft projects. My main tasks are to design different types of furniture such as ledges, floors or galleys. The design is done on Catia V5 and has to respect a lot of constraints and processes to be released and produced. In addition to the mechanical aspect of the design, I also do the electrical design, mainly wiring harnesses, which are an essential part of the furniture. This aspect is specific to our client and opens up a new dimension of work, as the electrical side has to perfectly match the mechanical one.

What excites you about this project?
The fact that aircraft furniture is so varied, you are always discovering new things, learning new ways of designing. It brings new challenges with every new job, so it’s never boring!

What makes you the right person to do this project?
I’ve always had a passion for design, especially in the aerospace and automotive industries. As I’m 100% motivated by the job, I’m not afraid to adapt to new environments and learn to be efficient as quickly as possible. Productivity is key in this job, so my design and communication skills allow me to be on time and deliver good results at all milestones!

How long have you been working on this project and how long will the mission last in total?
I’ve been working on this project for 1 year and 1 month at the moment, it will last at least until the 31st of December, with a high chance of being extended for next year.

What is the working atmosphere like within the company? Is there a perceived difference between the client’s employees and agap2 consultants?
In the open space, the atmosphere is calm and studious, there is no difficulty in talking and sharing with other employees. For our client, as it’s an American company, the culture is a bit different, but everyone is really friendly and available for questions and personal exchanges. There are definitely some similarities with the Agap2 consultants, as everyone is open and easy to approach.

How does agap2 contribute to your daily life at work?
There is always quick support from Agap2 when I have any administrative concerns and I can easily discuss the mission and its technical aspects when needed, so that’s a big plus!
