Iliana is a Recruitment Manager at the Lausanne office. Though the Vaud Alps are not exactly the place where she grew up, she has always had mountains around her and always loved hiking. Since moving close to Fribourg, she has constantly been looking for new hikes to enjoy the sun rays, fresh air and amazing views in her free time. This is about one of the hikes she has done, it is probably the most famous one in Romandie due to the stunning views over the Leman Lake: les Rochers-de-Naye.

You can get there by walking, you start from the village of Caux, and it is roughly a 3 to 4 hours walk up the mountain. You can also go there with a train from Montreux, it takes 48 minutes and departs every hour during the weekend. It offers fantastic views of the Leman Lake while going up the 1600m all the way to the top. A one-way ticket costs 35 CHF per person (full price).

The best time of the year to go is whenever the weather is good! In January or February, the path may be covered with snow, and you may need crampons for extra security. But on years when there is not too much snow, the path remains accessible without any special equipment all year round.

A must see or do is having a drink at the top of the mountain, taking a short walk and visiting the beautiful city of Montreux on the way down.

A must NOT see or do is waiting too long to walk down since the path can get tricky at night. Taking children along on this steep hike is not recommended either.

A good place to eat or drinkis the bar at the top – it cannot be missed! However, it is often crowded and nothing beats a home-made picnic while enjoying the fantastic views.

My best tip is to stop by at the restaurant named “Coucou” in the village of Caux in case you are hungry on the way down.

You may run into me there often as I frequently go hiking in this region. The “Col de Jaman” is another hike starting from Caux that looks beautiful as well.
